Saturday, September 18

Aquifer Adventure: Take a canoe ride on the slough with a pirate guide, make edible aquifers, play interactive groundwater games, and listen to live music. Airport Way and NE 166th, noon to 4:00 pm.

Mid-Autumn Moon Festival: A variety of Asian musicians, dancers, games, and cultural exhibits. Eastport Plaza, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Children’s Book Fair: Get free books and enjoy entertainment and activities including taiko drumming, book making, button making, and art tables. North Portland Library, 11:00 am–2:00 pm.

Dance with the Rockettes: Macy’s Washington Square invites kids and shoppers to dance with the Rockettes at 2:00 pm. Each young dancer who joins in the fun will receive an “Honorary Rockette” certificate.

Beaverton Celebration Parade and Old Town Festival: The parade will start at 10:00 am. After the parade, enjoy free family fun until 4:00 pm at Broadway and Hall Street.

Family Clothing Swap: Round up unwanted clean, good-condition clothing, accessories, and other wearables you or your kids don’t use or love anymore and bring them to swap. Midland Library, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Johnson Creek Discovery Saturdays: Hands-on activities for families with children younger than 10. This week’s activity is a nature-themed scavenger hunt. Leach Botanical Garden, 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Tigard Fun Run/Walk and Pet Parade: The free race begins at City Hall at 9:00 am. Pet parade and competition begin at 11:00 am at Summerlake Dog Park.

Sturgeon Festival: This family event celebrates the ecosystems of the Columbia River with a reptile show, educational activities, and more. Vancouver Water Center, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Life at Fort Vancouver: Experience one of the largest reenactments at Fort Vancouver, which takes visitors back in time to September 13, 1846, when the fort was buzzing with activity. 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Also enjoy free exhibits outside Pearson Air Museum starting at 4:00 pm.

Sunday, September 19

Portland Opera Preview: Lecture/concert covers historical background, composer information and musical selections from “Pagliacci and Carmina Burana.” Central Library, 2:00 pm.

Healthy Kids’ Fair: Bike helmets for $5, car safety clinic, low-cost immunizations, teddy bear clinic, height and weight checks, and more. Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
